Whether you are a first-time quilter or a more experienced quilter looking to create a small lap quilt, baby quilt or wall hanging this is a fun, modern take on a classic quilt block. You will explore color and value to design this "Sunshine and Shadow" block using straight seams creating a quilt top that will come together easily in two workshop sessions.

¼ yard  each of 5 to 7 fabrics of lighter color value

¼ yard each of  5 to 7 fabrics of darker value

¼ yard (“fat quarter” cut is fine) for the center squares. (Choose a contrast to the log cabin strips. If the strips are made up of mainly warm colors choose a cool color or visa-versa for contrast.)

Approximately 3/4 yard fabric in colors similar to the center squares to be cut into four 4 ½” by 44” strips for the border.

Approximately 1 ½ yard of backing fabric. (Enough for a 44” to 44.5” square.)

A 45” square of batting

Thread, pins, rotary cutter, acrylic rulers (large square as well as a long ruler), self-healing mat, iron, ironing surface, spray starch (I like Best Press), Sewing machine with a ¼” foot, and a walking foot
A large piece of batting ("crib size") to use as a design wall in class.
