Cut, alter and design a custom fit T-shirt.
A T-shirt is such a simple design but we often have a hard time finding a silhouette that flatters us. This multi-session class will cover what alterations we need to make to our patterns as well as instruction and tips for sewing knit garments. At the end we will have a paper pattern fit for your body and a T-shirt to match.
Class 1: Fitting and Cutting
- Take body measurements
- Note down alterations
- Tracing a pattern
- Cutting Demo
Homework: Cut sample fabric per instructions, bring machine for day 2-4
Class 2: Stabilizers and Stitching
- Stabilizing options
- When to stabilize, when to stretch
- What type of stitches to use
- Serger Demo
- Sew shoulders and re-fit
- Fabric check by instructor
Class 3: Sleeves and Side Seams
- Sewing demo
- Test fit
- Mark pattern alterations
Homework: Cut final fabric with altered pattern. Sew shoulders, sleeves, and side seams
Class 4: Neckline and Hems

Recommended and Required (*) Supplies:
- A machine in good, working order with stretch (stem) stitches available*
- 2 spools mettler Seraflex thread
- Schmetz 80/12 ballpoint jersey needle*
- Universal Twin Needle 4.0/80
- 1.5 yards 4 way stretch knit sample fabric (non expensive test fabric for fittings, similar weight and stretch to final fabric)*
- 1.5 yards 4 way stretch knit fabric. (Choose a good quality jersey knit fabric. Cotton, poly or blend OK)*
- Pencil for pattern drafting (mechanical, no2, just a normal pencil)
- 18" by 3" C-thru ruler
- Tracing Wheel

- Rotary Cutter (For Homework)
